Meeting people is hard. Meeting people while not everyone speaks the same language is very hard. Now, try meeting people in a foreign country, while knowing no one, while not speaking the language, and having no idea where to go/what to do. Seems a tad... difficult. And I’ve to experience this problem first hand while studying design + aesthetics in Japan. So I designed this app: Skooba.

Defined a personal problem. Surveyed the market for existing solutions, found them to be deficient. Used Adobe XD to prototype UI as well as interactions. Put final designs through 2 critique rounds of ~15 peers each time. Iterated on critiques after each round, and created a final slide deck to guide through the process. Will create a full documentation of the design process soon.
A few iterations on the explore screen, I wanted something to highlight the values I cared about, and wanted to differentiate from Tinder and Bumble:
